Effective January 1, 2012, the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DoDD) and local DD Boards will administer the Transition Waiver. The move was made by the Office of Health Transformation to consolidate management of all DD waivers under a single department and under a single existing structure for monitoring and case management. The change makes a great deal of sense from an administrative perspective, but requires a substantial adjustment for DD Board staff who are not as familiar with the nursing-oriented care needed by the typical recipient of Transition Waiver services.
There are many differences between Carestar case management and the county board Service and Support Administrator that families are likely to see. We believe it will be a positive experience in general for folks, but we do want them to know that there are different rules in our system that we have to follow as of January 1.
Families will have to be patient as the DD system works through the procedures necessary to implement the change. If there are problems, a family’s Service and Support Administrator from the DD Board should be the first point of contact.
