The number of assisted living facilities that participate in Ohio’s Medicaid program is slowly growing. There are now twenty-eight in Cuyahoga County and eleven in the adjacent counties (excluding Summit). What those facilities offer is the ability to (1) stay in-place if you are there and run out of money to pay, or (2) avoid a nursing home admission if you have been assisted by Medicaid in the community but can no longer remain there, or (3) are on Medicaid in a nursing home but can manage in a less restrictive environment. This is a win-win proposition – the State saves money and citizens are not prematurely forced into a nursing home.
